The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) are among the strategic EU industrial ecosystems, accounting for 3.95% of EU GDP. The CCIs have been one of the most affected sectors by the current crisis and need investments to repair and prevent future shocks. Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the CCI sector in Europe, representing 99% of its enterprises. MSMEs are particularly vulnerable actors and need support to strengthen their resilience capacity and cope with the current challenges, also in relation with the twin transition.

In Europe, the social economy is made up of approx. 500,000 enterprises employing 2,000,000 human resources, with high proportions of female workers. Social economy organisations face structural difficulties that hamper their potential to create more jobs and to address societal challenges on a larger scale while inspiring systemic changes in the mainstream economy.
