Swedish manufacturer discovers quick energy-saving wins

Swedish manufacturer discovers quick energy-saving wins

Information

Energy savings, no extra cost!

  • Energy audit revealed simple, effective measures
  • 10-12 % energy savings

Plast Petter AB is a small Swedish manufacturer of plastic products mainly for use in offices. The products are cut, welded and glued together.

The company uses energy from oil and electricity, around 320 MWh and 550 MWh every year respectively.

An energy checkup carried out at the company revealed several measures that could yield positive results. These included:

Winery shows how to save water in irrigation and cleaning

Winery shows how to save water in irrigation and cleaning

Information

Clean and lean water use

  • Installation of drip-feed irrigation system reduces water consumption by 5 100 m3 and saves ~€ 7 000 per year
  • Reorganising tank cleaning saves € 800 and cuts yearly water consumption by 1 200 m3

A winery located in Southeast Europe significantly decreased its water consumption through a clever rethinking of its irrigation and cleaning processes.

Czech electrical equipment manufacturer recovers waste heat

Czech electrical equipment manufacturer recovers waste heat

Information

Comfort... hard to quantify but worth investing in

  • Heat recovery saves money, improves working comfort in winter
  • Resulted in annual savings of 218 MWh of heat (equivalent to over € 17 000)

A company producing cables for electricity infrastructure located in the Czech Republic carried out a comprehensive energy audit resulting in several energy-saving measures. One of the proposals was to reuse waste heat from two production areas to warm adjacent halls.

Carlsberg, (probably) the best heat-recovering brewery in the world

Carlsberg, (probably) the best heat-recovering brewery in the world

Information

Excellent recovery!

  • Recovering heat saves on energy and cuts CO2
  • Results in annual energy efficiency gains (~3.5 %) and less CO2 emissions (~600 000 kg)

Carlsberg brewery is an energy-savings front-runner in line with its mission to optimise production and reduce overall CO2 emissions and energy consumption costs.

Shower push-button timer

Shower push-button timer

Information

Push-button timers fit for shower time

A push-button timer is a relatively simple technology for restricting the water flow of a shower to a designated length of time. Water stops running when the timer runs out, which prevents wastage. This reduces water utility bills and saves the environment.

How do they work? Push-button timers are a mechanical device (a pinhole within a diaphragm) that effectively closes the valve in the tap after around 30 seconds.

Cistern displacement or dual flush

Cistern displacement or dual flush

Information

Cistern displacement or dual flush? Your choice

Cistern displacement and dual flush are increasingly popular water-saving techniques. Authorities in many water-stressed places, for instance, are pushing this low-flush approach to safeguard a precious resource.

Dual-flush mechanisms are usually incorporated in new low-flush toilets, but may also be retrofitted to existing cisterns. These mechanisms have two buttons; one launches a full flush (e.g. 6 L) for solid materials; the other a half-flush (e.g. 3 L) for urine or liquids.

Low-flush toilet

Low-flush toilet

Information

Low-flush toilets let gravity do its job…

Low-flush gravity toilets with optimised cistern and bowl designs use 4-6 litres of water per full flush. This system can help you save up to 6 litres of water per full flush compared to conventional systems.

Low-flush toilets are universal and can be easily fitted. Read ‘Cistern displacement or dual flush’ for other alternatives!

Aerator/flow regulator for showerheads and taps

Aerator/flow regulator for showerheads and taps

Information

Try aerators to better regulate your shower and tap flow!

Aerators (flow regulator) are simple vacuum valves with an air intake that can be easily installed between the tap and hose, or between the hose and shower head.

Retrofitted to taps, the aerator – with or without flow regulators – can reduce the flow rate whilst generating less splashing to achieve better perceived ‘wet effect’ and efficiency.
