ENEA, Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, is the second major Italian research organization (about 2700 staff, 9 research centres). In the field of resource efficiency, ENEA, and in particular the Department for Sustainability, supports the transition to new production and consumption systems, based on sustainable supply and use of resources. ENEA develops technologies and instruments for resources efficient use and management. It operates in the sustainable management of waste and water and in the recovery/recycling of secondary raw materials from end-of-life products with the development, implementation and dissemination of integrated models for industrial ecology and territorial sustainable management, in urban and industrial areas.

ENEA developed and implemented the first italian industrial symbiosis platform; it launched and chairs the Symbiosis Users Network SUN. ENEA is selected member of the coordination group of the European Stakeholder Platform on Circular Economy (ECESP).
