Technitiger: turning old uniforms into sustainable workwear

Tèxtils.CAT member Technitiger has successfully completed the ReFiber4work project, a four-month initiative focused on giving old corporate uniforms a second life as durable, high-quality garments. With textile waste becoming a growing problem, Europe alone generates 5.8 million tons of it every year, with only a fraction being recycled—this project set out to prove that corporate workwear could be both practical and sustainable.
Thanks to support from the In Transit project, Technitiger tackled the challenge by collecting used uniforms, sorting them, breaking them down into fibers, and transforming them into brand-new workwear like cargo pants, jackets, polos, hoodies, and t-shirts. AI-driven design and digital traceability were key to making the process as efficient and transparent as possible, ensuring that every piece of fabric was put to good use.
Throughout the project, Tèxtils.CAT, the advanced textile materials cluster in Catalonia, provided valuable guidance and support. Their expertise in textile innovation and sustainable production helped Technitiger push the project forward, making it possible to develop new ways of recycling post-consumer uniforms into durable fabrics.
Beyond simply recycling old uniforms, ReFiber4work aimed to prove that sustainable workwear can be just as functional and long-lasting as traditional options. The project successfully diverted large amounts of textile waste from landfills, showing that circular fashion isn’t just a concept that businesses can adopt today.
This collaboration didn’t just help bring ReFiber4work to life—it also laid the foundation for future projects that focus on making textile production more sustainable and circular. Technitiger and Tèxtils.CAT plan to keep working together to explore new opportunities in eco-friendly workwear and responsible manufacturing.
In Transit aims to promote the resilience of SMEs in the textile, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and construction sectors by making them greener and more digital with a social and business model. This has been coupled with a mixed support mechanism that includes individual assessment support, financial support and advice to ensure consolidation and sustainability.
