SILEO Talent Placement Projects: MATEREAL

MATEREAL
We are pleased to announce that MATEREAL, a French SME has been awarded under the SILEO Open Call for Talent Placement Projects!
MATEREAL was founded in 2021 based on the research of the Tribology & System Dynamics Laboratory (LTDS) of the ENTPE on the characterization of materials appearance for physically-accurate 3D rendering. The company specializes in the measurement of the optical characteristics of surfaces and media under ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared light. MATEREAL provides material-related input data for light simulation software. Its offer includes on-demand measurement and access to material appearance databases. MATEREAL develops the methodology and tools dedicated to the advanced radiometric, photometric and colorimetric characterization of complex materials for physically realistic numerical modeling. MATEREAL valorizes the research work of the Laboratory of Tribology and Systems Dynamics (LTDS) of ENTPE, concerning optical and appearance characterizations of materials.

SILEO Talent Placement Project
Within the SILEO Talent Placement project, Matereal can integrate a professional Talent to address the challenge related to display of luxury products and cabinet design for the luxury industry. In the luxury boutique sector, lighting equipment is becoming increasingly miniaturized and integrated into furniture, enhancing scenography and reducing energy consumption. The challenge for lighting companies is to adjust light patterns with very high precision to achieve the best visual effects. This requires modeling bi-directional light reflection and distribution functions (BRDF, BTDF), a unique specialty of MATEREAL.
Therefore, the professional talent will handle optical data supplied by the companies (BRDFs and BTDFs) and use them for advanced applications that require a high level of detail: case studies involving glass components and materials with specific glossy-mixed effects. This is required in the domain of lighting luxury products, where the challenge is to render luminous effects of jewelry, leather, metal, textiles, lacquers, varnishes, etc.
MATEREAL will indirectly receive funding (€ 4.000) from the European Union’s Single Market Programme, via the SILEO Eurocluster Project (GA N.101074564).
