Shaping Europe Quantum Talent, Inside the QUANTUM Plus Project

Submitted by Cristina Murillo on 23 June 2025

As part of the QUANTUM+ project, we’re proud to contribute to a European effort that aims to equip students, professionals, and educators with the skills needed to thrive in the emerging field of quantum technologies (QT). Funded by the EU’s ERASMUS+ program, the project runs until September 2027 and brings together partners from Finland, Spain, Greece, and Italy.

Laying the Groundwork

To better understand the current landscape, we’ve completed a Desk Research Report exploring the state of the art in QT, its applications, and its entrepreneurial potential. We also conducted a stakeholder survey to assess levels of awareness, identify training needs, and uncover barriers to accessing QT education. Additionally, Focus Groups held across participating countries offered valuable insights into the specific skills needed in industry and research.

Collaboration in Action

Our recent project meeting in Bilbao, hosted by Cluster GAIA, marked a key step forward. We shared progress, refined plans for the training platform, and engaged with Lantik S.A., who presented Bizkaia’s regional strategy for quantum innovation. A visit to the University of the Basque Country’s team deepened our understanding of applied research in microelectronics and QT.

What’s Next

We’re currently developing online learning pills on topics such as quantum computing, communication, and sensing. These microlearning units will be interactive and accessible, featuring dynamic content and self-tests to make learning flexible and engaging.

Through QUANTUM+, we aim to close the quantum skills gap, support digital transformation, and help shape a future-ready European workforce.
