Meet with project SILICON-X supported by INGENIOUS Eurocluster

The INGENIOUS consortium is proud to support cutting-edge innovation in the space industry through the INGENIOUS Innovation Grant. One of the latest success stories is Silicon-X: Overcoming External Dependency through Integration (SILICON-X), a groundbreaking collaboration between SPHERICAL SYSTEMS B.V. (Netherlands) and UARX SPACE, S.L. (Spain). This project is redefining how power is managed in Orbital Transfer Vehicles (OTVs), ensuring more flexible, efficient, and resilient power systems for space missions.

The Power of Innovation

At the heart of Silicon-X is an advanced Power Conditioning and Distribution Unit (PCDU), developed to enhance satellite flexibility, reduce costs, and strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty in space.

🔹 SPHERICAL SYSTEMS B.V. – A leader in semiconductor design, developing software-configurable power subsystems to streamline satellite integration, reduce risks, and cut lead times from 1 year to just a few weeks.
🔹 UARX SPACE, S.L. – An expert in in-space transportation, ensuring Silicon-X technology is mission-ready from day one with experience in CubeSats, PocketQubes, and small satellite deployments.

A Game-Changer for Europe

Silicon-X goes beyond improving power systems—it supports Europe’s strategic independence by reducing reliance on American and Chinese space components. The project’s European-manufactured microchip integrates multiple components into a single, efficient system, boosting resource efficiency tenfold and significantly lowering costs.

From Development to Space

With the support of the INGENIOUS resilience training, the Silicon-X team has strengthened its capabilities in tackling industry challenges and meeting strict aerospace standards. Now, the project is ready to take the next big step—testing its PCDU in orbit!

🚀 In 2025, Silicon-X will be onboard OSSIE’s maiden mission, supporting thermal management by controlling onboard heaters. This real-world spaceflight validation marks a key milestone toward broader adoption of Silicon-X technology in future missions.

📢 Stay tuned—more INGENIOUS-supported space innovations coming soon!
